Very little documentation, let alone research, has been done of traditional architecture and settlement patterns in our country. This has, in the Foundation's view, adversely affected the growth and evolution of norms for building design and settlement planning suitable to our country. Named after the famous American architect, Louis I Kahn, who always drew his inspiration from historical architectural events, the Trophy is the first such effort to create a database of India’s historic and traditional habitat. Open to all the students of architecture in India, emphasis for selection of the entries is on examples of vernacular architecture and settlements. It is hoped that over the years, this documentation will provide a concrete base for research and studies pertaining to Indian habitat in all its regional variations. In addition to the winning entries, photo reproduction of entries are retained by the Vastu-Shilpa Foundation for on campus reference. Selected documentation portfolios are further disseminated to schools of architecture. The Trophy and cash awards of Rs. 10,000.00 have been sponsored by Shri B V Doshi and family. The Trophy is enthusiastically participated by over 30 schools of Architecture on an average and the event also form the part of evaluating the overall performance and ranking of schools. Citation for this year’s Trophy have been for the documentation portfolios of Masrur Temple, Himalaya; Anhilwad Patan, Gujarat; Baradari, Deeb and Art Deco, Bombay. The following is a list of selected entries received for documentation under the Trophy. Copies of which may be referred to at the Foundation.
