Education : Bachelor of Architecture from University with Honours in 1969. Professional Associations
Associate of Indian Institute of Architects, Bombay. Associate of Indian Institute of Interior Designers. Member of Practising Engineers Architects Town Planners Association. He has travelled abroad to East Asian countries like Singapore & Thailand to study various methods of construction and modern trends in architecture, while he has also visited USSR for studying Precast technology and for the assignment of Hotel Projects. He has visited USA and England.

UPASANI DESIGN CELL, is a firm of Architects promoted by Architect Deenbandu Upasani who is a 1969 graduate, Bombay University with Honours. Before starting his firm he has years of experience with different firms of Architects where he got an opportunity to work on hotel Oberoi Towers, Mumbai, Hotel Oberoi Grand Calcutta and Thapar Sheraton Hotel at Seychelles.
After starting his firm, he has been busy doing many hotels, commercial, industrial and residential projects. To his credit are two international design competition winning entries. Office complex for Adnoc for Abu Dhabi and Zaria township for Coal India Ltd. along with Texus Group USA, where they were placed second merit winner. Out of the other major projects is Grand Bay Hotel at Vizag Andhra Pradesh (100 room ITC Hotel) Madhuli Apartment, a prestigious centrally air – conditioned apartment building, Mumbai, project in A.P., Kitti Steel and industrial project at Hyderabad, non plant building at Taloja for Deepak Fertilizer a turn key consultancy project, Village Green Restaurant at Worli first ethnic vegetarian restaurant with a total village setting surrounding a performing art stage where folk dances, folk music, artisan corner were unique features, Emerald Hotel Hyderabad, Sudha Regency - Hyderabad, Garden Hotel – Panvel, Kamat – Khandala, a hotel designed with unique valley view rooms, duplex room with fixed built in furniture. First time conceived in any hotel and with outdoor restaurant like Kamats Green and Eltaj. Among other liesure project Water Park for Ajwa Fun World is one of its kind. Upasani Design Cell is presently busy in doing 200 rooms Holiday Inn Hotel at Nairobi. Totally designed ON African Safari theme, 110 room hotel in Jaipur, 30 lakh sq.ft, Unique Township project in Trivandrum, 100 room hotel for Sanghi Oxygen – Mumbai. First, island (200 rooms) resort of the country at Concona Goa using natural contours of the island. With all the rooms and areas getting sea view on ethenic Goan architectural character. Architect D. M. Upasani belongs to a school of thought in Architecture which believes in true Architecture and not the falsification., not the cosmetic architecture where function takes forefront and form is evolved naturally. The emphasis is on the character and not the personality of the building. His design thrust is to provide soothing environment to every function in human life with built form open to sky spaces and built spaces and built spaces creatively interiored. Living in this ever changing world so rich in varied cultures and appreciations Mr. Upasani strives to identify and understand the special influences of each project in designing for the best human experience. The ORCHID is a recently opened 5 star hotel, the first Eco friendly hotel in Asia designed by Architect D. M. Upasani has been given recognition by Ecotel USA. |
