GLASS MOSAIC TILES

Tip for preparation of the
Surface required for Fixing Glass Mosaic Tiles

The following important points which are to be kept into consideration while preparation of the surface:
In case of swimming pool wherever sudden change of slope is provided; expansion joints should
also be provided at the line of change of the slope.         However for hair cracks it may be covered with the same adhesive being used for fixing
        Bisazza glass mosaic tiles.
FIXING OF GLASS MOSAIC TILES

INSTALLATION CONDITION

TILES JOINTS: TO KEEP IN MIND
THE CHOICE OF ADHESIVE & CEMENT:

For fixing the bisazza mosaic tiles the adhesive and cement to be used should be as recommended by Bisazza India.

TECHNICAL TERMS IN COMMON USE:

OPEN TIME: Maximum time between the spreading of the adhesive on the substrate and the fixing of the tiles.

ADJUSTABILITY TIME: Time available for adjusting the position of tiles after the fixing.

SLIDING: Capacity of the adhesive to resist the vertical sliding of the fixed tile depending on the dimension and weight.

RESISTANCE TO WATER: Capacity of the adhesive to maintain its quality in continued contact with water.

PRACTICABILITY: Minimum necessary time, after the fixing, for trafficking on the works without risk of them becoming debonded. It is necessary to distinguish among the following cases: traffic in order to execute the joints, light traffic, heavy traffic.

DEFORMABILITY: Capacity of the adhesive to flattening under the tiles to obtain a maximum surface of contact substrate / adhesive, the tapping pressure on the tiles and the open time.

FLATTENING: Capacity of the adhesive to flattening under the tiles to obtain a maximum surface of contact substrate / adhesive, the tapping pressure on the tiles and the open time.

The longer the time elapsed between the spreading and the fixing, the more difficult is the flattening. As such, more pressure is required.

EFFECT OF THE COLOUR OF ADHESIVE ON FINISHED TILE SURFACE:

1. Using white coloured cement adhesive with lattice has got no effect on the colour of Bisazza Glass Mosaic Tiles.
2. Using coloured adhesive such as grey or using colour pigment with the adhesive then due to transparency of the glass mosaic tiles, the colour of the fixed tiles may appear to look different than its original colour.

NOTE :

All the above mentioned specifications are only for the concrete surface. In case the Bisazza glass tiles are required to fix on any other surface other than concrete surface, it is advised to contact Bisazza India for obtaining the best results before the tiles are fixed.

LEVELNESS:
The substrate must be levelled to avoid aesthetic defects of the installation, which could prejudice the proper maintenance of the tiles on the floor (don't confuse levelness with flatness).
The plainness of the support is to be verified with a 02 mm straight edge. To proceed to direct fixing defects must not be over 07 mm under the straight edge.
If the defects don't exceed more than 20% of the total area, on a continuous surface of 01 sq.m. the defect is said to be localised. If the defects so exceed the defects are said to be generalised.

HARDNESS:
The substrate must be solid, sound, non-friable and crack resistant. To check the hardness of the surface various sketches are made with the help of a nail. The scratch must be superficial.

STABILITY:
The substrate must be stable to avoid after installation problems.

POROSITY:
The absorption rate of the cement substrates must be normal to avoid premature drying of the adhesive so as not to shorten the open time the surface should not be water absorbent.

ADHESION:
He old wall cladding must be well bonded so as to avoid any detachment. Verify the adhesion of the old tiles or of the rigid panels by tapping with a hammer or a trowel.

CLEANING:
The surface must be clean to allow adhesion of the adhesive.

HUMIDITY:
The substrate must be dry.
