Interior spaces frequently change to reflect new uses. Unused or under used spaces within a building can often be converted to productive space without physically enlarging a building. Cutting through a floor can create dramatic interior spaces, as this interior project shows abundantly.
This was a four storeyed shed-type building with no architectural strenghts. To create some interest within the building, Somaya & Kalappa connected the department s vertically instead of horizontally by puncturing the slab and introducing a skylight.
