ARCHITECTURE : CONSERVATION : INTERIORS : COMMUNITY PROJECTS
Spastics Society of India, Bangalore
Some years ago, the spastics were donated a piece of land in Indira Nagar in Bangalore for a school campus. Architects designed the project, which catered to the physical limitations of the handicapped. Passages are wide open enough for wheel chairs to traverse easily. Supports are in the corridors to bolster the flatering steps of hesitant walkers. Similarly, toilets are specially designed. The Architects sought to create a visual sense of space, so that even the childrens themselves move freely. Adding cheer to the ambience is the use of bright colours - bright yellow within, and red and blue which set off the purity of white elsewhere. The school for spastics is a bright place, well ventilated and full of natural light.
